Visioning 2025

Here are the prompts listed in the episode! Enjoy.

TOOL 1: A Body checkin

There’s not a lot of opportunity to connect all the feelings we have inside. Use this time to allow insight. Being present is where we are happier, it’s also where we are more objective. Studies show rumination removes joy.

Take a deep breath…Ask…

How is it in my heart today?

How is it in my mind right now?

How is it in my body right now? Do a quick scan.

Next…

Am I holding energy that is keeping me static? Where is there tension in my body? How can I relax into that area?

TOOL 2: Resonant Images

For getting feedback from the unconscious… We need something to react to – this is how a lot of mediums work, bouncing off of reference imagery or key visuals as a way to respond.

Find a book or a magazine with lots of pictures. Stop at one that feels like it has resonance for you. Just pick the first picture that has friction for you. That feels resonant in any way.

Don’t judge it or control it, just allow one to choose you.

I invite you to talk about the one you chose that has energy for you and why. Don’t overthink it…
Write about this image in a stream of consciousness way in your journal - your job is just to pick one that stirs you on an unconscious level.

WE HAVE AN EGO AND AN UNCONSCIOUS: The unconscious loves symbolic and resonant imagery. You can think of the unconscious self as the original self. That other self is a different part of you – an original part of you. This practice is really to feel into that hard to explain inner self, the one that is less literal and more figuarative. I will invite you in these prompts to say vague things – allow yourself to free associate. Allow the words to flow and not judge them. Ask in more textural ways what it is you want, what feels pleasing and good. What might sound like something you would want.

Prompt:

●      What do you love about this image? How do you relate to this image?

What does it symbolize? What does it remind you of? What - if anything - does this tell you that you should bring into your life?

STEP 2: The Clay

When we have unconscious material that is sticking in the back of our mind, it keeps us from clear motion forward but we cannot see it – it feels more like an area we don’t want to go.

So by bringing anything unconscious OUT and being AWARE of it - making it into our “clay” - that thing no longer subconsciously guides you. Example from my own life – I had a really harsh experience directing many years ago. It left a big mark that made me not want to do it for a long time. I had to process that thing in order to restore a sense of safety and love around that process for myself. I had to bring out the fear – that sensitivity – in order to see the love inherent.

JOURNAL PRACTICE 2:

Bring out the clay so it’s “active”

Prompt:

●      What is a belief or a worry that you feel is blocking you? Allow it to come forth and materialize.

(It might not be “you.” It might be something external that is out of your control, or perhaps conflicting priorities, like wanting to be home with kids but also successful at work.)

●      What is something that is nagging at your subconscious that you know is imminent and
needs attention?

• What is a belief or a worry that you feel is blocking you? Allow it to come forth and materialize. It might not be “you.” It might be a perception of a system. It might be something like a conflict of drive. Like wanting two opposite things in life.

TOOL 3: Third Person or Little Me

Think of yourself as a second person – this person has feelings about what makes them feel happy and rewarded. This is like your inner self. – The importance of nervous system in the design of life

For some people we learn the hard way that we are not designed for certain conditions and certain ways of working. One thing I want you to do is begin to recognize the conditions that allow your body, sense of peace and joy, creativity and productivity to thrive.

JOURNAL PRACTICE 3:

Prompts:

●      Think of yourself in third person – how do you treat yourself? For ex: like an ancient monk in a temple. Or like a Downton Abbey servant.

●      Describe what conditions allow you to thrive best.
What does your body want to feel? What was a recent moment when you felt really embodied?

●      What – if anything, in your current routine is causing you anxiety, difficulty accessing flow, happiness, productivity?

TOOL: Future Day Exercise

I am going to ask you to envision a day in the future that represents you enjoying the fruits of growth and hard work: what are you doing, what are you feeling, what is the joyful part of that practice? Well-rounded lives make for brilliant and productive parents, workers, and humans.

Think of yourself as a second person – this person has feelings about what makes them feel happy and rewarded. This is like your inner self.

JOURNAL PRACTICE 4:

Future day exercise

Prompts:

●      What is an ideal future moment that unites all of you? It could be in a totally different sphere or role that exists outside of what you do now.

What makes that so exciting? For ex: you’re now an expert on something and being interviewed about it.

●      What was a recent and unexpected moment of joy that you experienced?

A GENTLE REMINDER-

• Fear is normal

• Struggle is normal

• Stress is normal
